JONATHAN ROY lives in Warsaw, Poland after spending 26 years in New York City. He received a degree in architecture from Columbia University and grew up in Puerto Rico, Washington State, and Congo. In addition to producing paintings, Mr. Roy is a passionate illustrator and watercolorist as well as graphic designer, architect, and restaurateur. His time in New York found him designing and building famous nightlife and hospitality spots, but he always wanted to attack the canvases.
Mr. Roy’s works represent a range of styles, from his character-driven Walter works exploring the quirks of everyday life through the eyes of a snarky and smart kid (whose greeting cards were available at the NYC MOMA design store), to abstract-adjacent science fiction pieces merging an expressionistic approach with sneaky touches of realism. From napkin sketches to fully rendered graphic novels and larger works on canvas, his pieces explore urban, suburban, and occasionally cosmic themes—explorations of home, place, the Void, and the spaces in between.
In addition to the works featured on this site, Mr. Roy has a large catalog of watercolors, illustrations, sequential art, and drawings. Many are available for sale. Prices for all works are available upon request. jonathanroyemail@gmail.com
